Turkish drone strike kills three PKK members in northern Iraq
A Turkish drone strike kills 3 members of a group affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party and injures 3 others.
A Turkish drone strike killed three fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and injured 3 others in Iraqi Kurdistan, the region's counter-terrorism service announced on Tuesday.
At around 2:00 am (GMT), "a Turkish army drone targeted a headquarters of the Sinjar Resistance Units," the security service said, as it referred to a group of fighters affiliated with the PKK in the Sinjar region, an area which has become known for conflict between Turkey and the Kurdish groups.
The PKK has led a long militarized campaign against Turkey, which spilled over into northern Iraqi territories on multiple occasions.
Last week, a bombing raid in the Sinjar district killed another three fighters.
On April 16, a drone strike allegedly carried out by Turkey killed at least two people and left others wounded in northern Iraq's Kurdistan region, AFP reported on Sunday citing officials.
The drone targeted late Saturday a vehicle transporting fighters of the Kurdistan Workers' Party near the border with Iran.
Governor of Al-Sulaimaniyah region Haval Abu Baker discussed the issue with the Iraqi Kurdistan region's Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and expressed his concerns about the repeated attacks.
"According to preliminary elements of the investigation, two people were killed and two others injured by these attacks," Abu Baker said in a statement without adding details.
The Governor expressed "hope that these attacks will stop, to preserve the security of the region," according to his statement.
