Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu conducted talks in Ankara with a delegation from the Taliban movement.

A diplomatic source told Sputnik that the Turkish delegation, led by Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, conducted talks with the interim Afghan government's delegation, led by acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi at the Foreign Ministry.

Muttaqi had met delegations from the US and the EU in Doha on Tuesday and said during the meeting that weakening the Afghan government will be beneficial to no-one because of its negative consequences on global security, the economy, and immigration.

EU Spokesperson Nabila Masrali said at the time that the meeting will allow the US and the EU to address a number of issues, including securing safe passage for those who wish to leave Afghanistan, ensuring humanitarian access, women's rights, and preventing the country from devolving into a haven for terrorist groups.

She noted that the unofficial meeting will only discuss technical issues, and it does not constitute a recognition of the transitional government.
