Turkish, Iraqi Intelligence Cooperation to Arrest ISIS Leader
Security sources have revealed cooperation between Turkish and Iraqi intelligence services in arresting ISIS chief of finance and Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi's deputy, Sami Jasim.
Security sources revealed on Tuesday that Turkish intelligence helped Iraq arrest ISIS leader, Sami Jasim, who was hiding in northwest Syria, in an operation that indicates close cooperation against the remnants of the organization.
A senior regional security source and two Iraqi security sources told Reuters that Turkish intelligence played a key role in arresting Jasim, as he was detained in Turkey shortly after luring across the border then transferred to Iraq on a military plane.
Last Monday, the Iraqi authorities announced the arrest of Jasim during what they explained was a "major action by our forces in the National Intelligence Service and a special operation outside our borders."
The Security Media Cell in Iraq stated that Jasim is considered one of the most wanted individuals internationally and is close to the committee delegated to manage the organization and to the current leader of the terrorist organization, Abdul Nasser Qardash.
It also revealed that he held "leading, security and financial positions in the terrorist organization, including the position of the deputy of terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi," noting that he also held "the so-called House of Money office in the organization and was the deputy governor of the Tigris."
