UK PM may have lied on evacuating animals instead of people from Afghanistan
Boris Johnson, who is already embroiled in the Partygate scandal which may well end his career, may have lied on the evacuation of animals instead of people from Afghanistan according to leaked e-mails.
Amid Boris Johnson’s successive scandals, comes yet another scandal that will be added to the mix, as it seems the British Prime Minister may have been lying about his involvement in the evacuation of animals for a British charity in Afghanistan in late August.
E-mails leaked by a cross-parliamentary committee have thrown doubt on the premier’s credibility, as it seems that Johnson may have used vital resources to rescue animals instead of people from Afghanistan amid the very messy withdrawal from the country.
One email, sent by a Foreign Office official on August 25 states that “the PM” had just "authorized" the evacuation of staff and animals from Nowzad, a charity run by former British Royal Marines Commander Pen Farthing, while lobbying a colleague to help with evacuations for another animal charity.
"Equivalent charity Nowzad, run by an ex-Royal Marine, has received a lot of publicity and the PM has just authorized their staff and animals to be evacuated, [animal charity -- name redacted] are hoping to be treated in the same capacity (granted LOTR),” meaning permission to Leave Outside The Rules of immigration.
A second e-mail sent between Foreign Ministry officials on that day references the “PM’s decision” to evacuate Nowzad staff, but doesn’t mention animals.
Nowzad’s website confirms that Farthing, its founder, was evacuated from the country along with the charity’s staff, their immediate families, as well as 94 dogs and 68 cats. This happened while thousands of desperate Afghans with the necessary paperwork could not find room onboard any airplanes to leave the country.
