Ukraine concerned about Western focus on 'Israel': Medvedev
The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council says Kiev fears a reduction in the level of Western support in terms of arms and financial aid.
Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, pointed out on Thursday that Ukraine is concerned about the Western focus on "Israel" amid Operation Al-Aqsa Flood and the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
In an article in the Russian newspaper Izvestia, Medvedev suggested that Kiev fears a reduction in the level of Western support in terms of arms and financial aid, explaining that Ukraine "jealously watches Israel and pleads while shedding crocodile tears."
Touching on the Israeli aggression on Gaza, the Russian diplomat said that no US administration has ever been interested in finding a final settlement in the Middle East, adding that an unstable situation in the region has proved to be very useful to Washington.
"First of all, an unstable explosive region [Middle East], packed with a variety of weapons, turned out to be very useful to the United States. If there is a problem — the services of the US are needed... Controlled instability that brings influence and big money," Medvedev indicated.
On October 11, just four days after the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, The New York Times reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a "surprise" visit to the NATO headquarters in Brussels, seeking to maintain the flow of weapons to his country.
The newspaper quoted Zelensky as saying that "of course, everybody's afraid" that Western assistance would decrease as long as the confrontation between the Palestinian Resistance and the Israeli occupation continues.
Moreover, Foreign Policy pointed out on October 10 that European countries are concerned about their inability to send military aid to "Israel" after depleting their reserves due to supporting Ukraine.
The magazine mentioned that European countries discussed the possibility of providing military assistance to the Israeli occupation, stressing that many European officials are worried that the aid they have sent to Ukraine has left them with almost nothing.
It is noteworthy that the UN Security Council voted to reject a Russia-proposed draft resolution to resolve the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The resolution on Monday received four votes in favor, five against, and six abstentions.
"We regret that the council once again has found itself a hostage to the ego, to the selfish intentions of the Western bloc of countries," Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said after the vote.
Following other states' draft resolution proposals, the Russian mission to the United Nations included amendments to its resolution to condemn the indiscriminate Israeli strikes against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and call for a humanitarian ceasefire amid the dire situation for the civilians there.
