Ukraine Urges Action to Deter 'Russian Invasion'
Alleging that Russia could carry out a military invasion against his country, Ukraine's foreign minister called for swift action to deter the alleged invasion.
Ukraine called Monday for swift action to "deter" an "invasion" by Russia, alleging that Moscow could launch a military operation "in the blink of an eye."
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has claimed that Russia has massed 115,000 troops around Ukraine and on Crimea "and in two eastern regions occupied by pro-Russian separatists."
Ukraine and the West have been alleging that Russia has been carrying out military activity near Ukraine. Kyiv's ally, the United States says it has "real concerns" over a "Russian military build-up" on the border with Ukraine.
"It's better to act now, not later" to "deter Russia," Kuleba said at a briefing for foreign media.
"What we are seeing is very serious. Russia has deployed a large military force in regions close to Ukraine's state border," the minister insisted, claiming that Moscow has massed tanks, artillery, electronic warfare systems, and air and naval forces.
However, as he pleads for help, he said Ukraine's army had become "incomparably stronger" than in 2014 and would "fight back."
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service accused the US department of state of spreading false information about Russia's alleged buildup for a military invasion of Ukraine.
"Recently, Washington officials have been actively intimidating the global community with Russia's alleged preparation for 'aggression' against Ukraine," the SVR said.
