A Ukrainian attack on the Russian city of Belgorod on Sunday resulted in several civilian injuries, including two children, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

"The Ukrainian military has launched another strike on our region. Our air defenses shot down several aerial targets over Belgorod and the Belgorod Region. Preliminary reports suggest that eight people were injured in Belgorod, including two children. Ambulances are bringing the injured to city hospitals," Gladkov posted on Telegram.

According to the governor, a man suffered a minor head injury in the village of Maisky, located on the southwestern outskirts of Belgorod. He received medical assistance at the scene and declined hospital treatment.

Gladkov reported that firefighting teams successfully extinguished a burning vehicle in the courtyard of an apartment building, as well as a balcony in one of the apartments. They are currently dealing with a fire that has spread to dry grass. He added that details regarding any additional damages from the attack are still being verified.

On August 14, Belgorod's governor declared a state of emergency in the city over the "extremely difficult" situation amid ongoing Ukrainian bombardment.

A day after Gladkov's statement, the Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov declared that the Belgorod Region had been declared a federal-level state of emergency.

The minister explained that the scope of the situation in the Belgorod region exceeds its capacity to independently manage the aftermath of the current emergency. He noted that the situation in the region is difficult and tense, with homes and infrastructure damaged and casualties reported due to attacks by Ukrainian armed forces.
