Ukrainian drone attack near Moscow thwarted: Russian MoD
According to the Center grouping Spokesperson, Russian servicemen were able to repel and thwart seven attacks by Ukrainian forces in the Krasnyi Lyman direction.
The Russian air defense system shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle approaching Moscow at night, according to the Mayor of the Russian capital, Sergey Sobyanin.
Sobyanin wrote on Telegram, "Tonight, the air defense forces destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle that was approaching Moscow via the Istra district."
He added that according to initial reports, "There are no casualties or damages; emergency services are on site."
On its part, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed in a statement that Ukraine's attempt to carry out a "terrorist attack" by an aircraft-type drone on facilities in Moscow and the Moscow Region has been thwarted.
"On August 26, at about 03:00 Moscow time, an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack by an aircraft-type UAV on facilities in Moscow and the Moscow Region was thwarted. The UAV was destroyed by air defense systems on duty above the Istra District of the Moscow Region," the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, Russian servicemen repelled and thwarted seven attacks by Ukrainian forces in the Krasnyi Lyman direction, Center grouping Spokesperson Alexander Savchuk told Sputnik.
"In the Krasny Lyman direction, units of the Center grouping of troops, using air strikes and artillery fire, repelled and thwarted seven attacks by assault detachments of the 42nd, 63rd, and 67th mechanized brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Savchuk said.
He revealed that the enemy's losses in that direction amounted to about 60 servicemen.
DPR shelled 63 times
In a related context, the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) was shelled by Ukrainian troops 63 times over the past day, the DPR representative office in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of issues related to Ukraine's war crimes said in a statement.
"Over the past 24 hours, the office reported 63 cases of fire by Ukrainian armed units," the office said on Telegram.
It said 233 rounds of various ammunition were fired by Ukraine.
A total of 93 shelling attacks by Ukrainian troops were recorded on the previous day.
This comes shortly after the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russia has successfully thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack targeting the Bryansk and Kaluga regions. According to the statement, Russia destroyed three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during the overnight attack.
This type of attack is not new as two Ukrainian drones near Crimea were intercepted by the Russian Defense via electronic warfare, downing them into the water over the Black Sea 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) northwest of the Crimean peninsula, according to the Russian Defense Ministry released last Tuesday.
On August 20, Sobyanin revealed that the Russian air defense forces successfully intercepted a Ukrainian drone attempting to breach Moscow's airspace from the south on Saturday night, Sputnik reported.
"At night, a drone tried to reach Moscow from the southern direction. It was stopped by the air defense forces. Thanks to the military for their work," Sobyanin said on Telegram.
At the time, the Russian Defense Ministry later provided more information on the incident, indicating that the drone was neutralized through electronic warfare, causing it to lose control and crash in an uninhabited area. Fortunately, no casualties or damage resulted from the crash, the Ministry assured.
However, the situation took a different turn in the central Russian city of Kursk, where a Ukrainian drone crashed onto the rooftop of a railway station, triggering a fire and causing injuries.
The Ukrainian army has become overreliant on the use of long-range missiles and attack drones, as its counteroffensive is proving to be a failed mission, with Moscow being the most sensitive location attacked, while Crimea is currently the most targeted.
