UN cannot ensure arrival of Russian delegation to Geneva: Zakharova
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova tersely questions the UN’s inability to ensure the arrival of the Russian delegation despite the urgency of the situation.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the UN was unable to ensure the arrival of the Russian delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the UN Human Rights Council meeting in Geneva.
In an interview for Rossiya 1 channel, she said: "the UN cannot ensure the arrival of the Russian delegation to Geneva for a meeting of the Disarmament Committee and the Human Rights Council, and this is the answer of the UN Secretary-General."
"Considering that now the countries that border us, the countries of Europe, have closed the skies for the passage of Russian aircraft, then, accordingly, of the board by which the Russian delegation should arrive in Geneva on Tuesday. I repeat once again: not participating in the exhibition of works and achievements, and not even in a conversation about very important environmental issues, but about the most urgent, the most important — disarmament and human rights," Zakharova added.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson highlighted that the UN is obligated to ensure the arrival of the delegation, especially at such a critical moment for the world, to the UN headquarters, its office in Geneva.

Zelensky previously refused to negotiate and said Sunday that Belarus cannot be the platform for talks with Russia and suggested Budapest, Warsaw, or Istanbul, despite the Kremlin's statement that a Russian delegation has already arrived in Belarus.
The request was later approved, and "consultations on the time and place of the talks are going on at these hours," according to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's press secretary Sergei Nikiforov.

Russia launched a special operation to demilitarize and "denazify" Ukraine on Thursday, in response to requests from the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics for assistance in combating Ukrainian troops' aggression. The special operation is only targeting Ukrainian military facilities, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, and the civilian population is not at risk. Moscow has stated that it has no intention of occupying Ukraine.
