UNIFIL warns any Israeli 'crossing into Lebanon' violates sovereignty
The UNIFIL is urging "Israel" to commit to the resolution 1701, stressing that "any crossing into Lebanon" would be a violation.
The UN peacekeeping force in South Lebanon cautioned on Tuesday that any incursions into the country would violate its sovereignty, following "Israel's" announcement of a "limited ground operation."
"Any crossing into Lebanon is in violation of Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a violation of resolution 1701. We urge all actors to step back from such escalatory acts, which will only lead to more violence and more bloodshed," UNIFIL stated.
In a related context, the United Nations expressed concern as "Israel" planned a ground invasion in Lebanon under the pretext of targeting Hezbollah, warning against the potential for a "large-scale ground invasion."
"With armed violence between Israel and Hezbollah boiling over, the consequences for civilians have already been terrible -- and we fear a large-scale ground invasion by Israel into Lebanon would only result in greater suffering," Liz Throssell, spokesperson for the UN rights office, told reporters in Geneva.
Moreover, the Israeli occupation warned Lebanese residents to evacuate over 20 areas in south Lebanon
The IOF initiated a series of "limited" and "localized raids" in southern Lebanon, allegedly only targeting the border area, the IOF announced in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
The operation, which had been failing for hours as Israeli forces faltered under Hezbollah's fire, reportedly aims to"neutralize" the Resistance's infrastructure and positions that pose a threat to "Israel" and its northern settlements.
In response to the Israeli attempts, Hezbollah responded with fire, carrying out eight operations till this hour. In support of the steadfast Palestinian people in Gaza and in solidarity with their Resistance, as well as in defense of Lebanon and its citizens, the Resistance fighters launched rockets toward Tel Aviv, putting several roads out of service.
