US Conoco occupation base in Syria comes under 3rd attack in 24 hours
A field source informs Al Mayadeen that explosions were heard in areas near the base.
A field source told Al Mayadeen that the US Conoco occupation base in Syria was targeted with multiple rockets on Saturday evening, marking the third such attack on the base in less than 24 hours.
The source added that explosions were heard from nearby areas coming from the direction of the base, which is established at the occupied Conoco gas field in the Deir Ezzor province of eastern Syria.
US military helicopters were dispatched to the eastern countryside of the province and the vicinity of the base, while US forces launched flares nearby.
Conoco was struck with five rockets in a single strike during the early hours of Saturday, shortly after it was targeted with several rockets late Friday. Additionally, the Ain al-Assad US airbase in Iraq also came under attack last week, as per the Pentagon, which said it was carried out using two drones.
"Three missiles landed in the territory of the base at Conoco, the other two in the vicinity of the base. US helicopters took to the air after the shelling," a source told Sputnik on the early Saturday operation targeting the Conoco base.
No party has adopted any of the attacks yet.
US and coalition forces in Iraq and Syria have been targeted with dozens of attacks since October 2023, following the start of the Israeli war on Gaza.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the majority of the operations, citing the US involvement in the Israeli genocide in Gaza, conditioning that they would stop when the war on the Strip ended.
The US military has some 2,500 troops deployed in Iraq and 900 in occupied territories in Syria.
