US forces carry out aerial aggression on Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says the strike came in response to a series of attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria.
Field sources confirmed to Al Mayadeen on Thursday that the eastern side of the city of Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria, was subjected around midnight to an aerial attack with four missiles.
The sources pointed out that the aggression targeted the outskirts of the city of Deir Ezzor from the direction of Port Said Street and Harabesh, noting that the missiles targeted a bakery and empty warehouses.
The Pentagon was quick to claim responsibility for the aggression, with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announcing in a statement that the United States undertook strikes at the direction of President Joe Biden, allegedly targeting a weapons storage facility used by Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps "(IRGC) and affiliated groups."
"This strike was conducted by two US F-15s against a weapons storage facility. The United States is fully prepared to take further necessary measures to protect our people and our facilities," Austin said.
He added that the strike came in response to a series of attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria, urging against any escalation of the situation.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq confirmed that it had targeted three US occupation bases in Syria on multiple occasions on Wednesday: the Green Village, Conoco gas field, and al-Shadadi.
A field source confirmed to Al Mayadeen that violent clashes broke out, early Thursday morning, between the US occupation forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the one hand, based in areas they occupy east of the Euphrates, and the Syrian Arab Army and its allies on the other hand, based in their control points west of the Euphrates.
The source pointed out that various types of weapons are being used in the ongoing clashes, including medium, heavy artillery, and missiles, noting that the clashes began shortly after the US aggression that targeted the eastern neighborhoods of Deir Ezzor.
Meanwhile, the US occupation base in the Conoco gas field, east of Deir Ezzor, was bombed by missiles and drones, as per a field source.
A field source from Deir Ezzor also confirmed to Al Mayadeen that the US occupation base in the al-Omar oil field, east of Deir Ezzor, was targeted with six missiles in response to the US aggression on the eastern neighborhoods of the city.
The source pointed out that the attack was the second on the US base within an hour, noting that the first originated from Iraqi territory.
