US Navy Conducts Operations in Black and Mediterranean Seas
The US Navy announces conducting operations in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean in cooperation with the NATO Naval Support Forces.
On October 29, 2021, the US Navy announced that its Sixth Fleet and Naval Striking and Naval Support Forces Nato Staffs (STRIKFORNATO) have begun operations in the Mediterranean and Black seas.
According to the US Navy's statement, the Sixth Fleet Operations staff works together [with NATO partners] to ensure security and stability in the region, without offering any additional details.
Russian Defense Ministry: USS Porter was monitored
On the other hand, the Russian Zvezda website reported from the control center of the Russian Defense Ministry that the Black Sea Fleet forces had begun monitoring the actions of the destroyer USS Porter (guided-missile destroyer), which entered the Black Sea region on Saturday, October 30.
The statement indicated that this is not the first time that the aforementioned destroyer has become a target of tracking by the Russian Navy, as US sailors faced similar measures in 2019 and 2020.
Earlier this month, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that a Russian anti-submarine ship belonging to the Pacific Fleet had confronted an American destroyer that tried to violate the Russian Territorial Waters. Russia also summoned the US military attaché to protest the incident.
