US Secret Service shoots armed suspect near White House

US Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House overnight, a spokesperson for the agency announced early Sunday. At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida for the weekend.
According to a statement posted by Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi on social media platform X, the man was hospitalized, though his condition remains "unknown."

The statement did not clarify whether the White House or Trump was a potential target. No injuries were reported among Secret Service personnel.
Authorities had been alerted by local police about a "suicidal" man traveling to Washington from Indiana. Around midnight, agents located the suspect’s parked vehicle near 17th and F Streets, a location close to the White House.
"As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired by our personnel," the statement said.
"The suspect was transported to an area hospital and his condition is unknown," it added, noting that Washington police have launched an investigation into the incident.
