US to "Israel": Diplomacy is Best at Deterring Iran From Acquiring Nuclear Weapon
Biden's adviser, Jake Sullivan, assured that other options could be considered in case diplomacy fails.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan assured his Israeli allies that Washington prefers to adopt a diplomatic approach in dealing with Iran.
Sullivan met with his Israeli counterpart, Eyal Hulata, and a high-level delegation at the White House on Tuesday to attend the meeting of the US-"Israel" Strategic Advisory Group.
The meeting was attended by the senior defense, military and intelligence officials, and diplomats from both sides.
The National Security Adviser told the former Mossad senior that the current administration believes "diplomacy is the best path" in reference to the upcoming Vienna talks aimed at deterring Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
On the other hand, speaking of the possible failure of reviving the JCPOA, the nuclear deal which Obama signed in 2015 and Trump exited in 2018, Joe Biden has made clear that "if diplomacy fails, the United States is prepared to turn to other options."
Additionally, both sides exchanged views on the most pressing challenges affecting the security and stability of the region, and expressed "their joint determination to confront the threats facing Israel and regional partners."
On Tuesday, a senior US official said that the United States hopes to "return quickly" to the negotiating table with Iran to revive the Iranian nuclear deal. "We will inform Tel Aviv that Biden is ready to take other ways to ensure that Tehran does not acquire nuclear weapons," added the official, who asked not to be named.
