Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil has warned European taxpayers that millions of euros, which the European Union claims are intended as aid for his country, do not actually reach Venezuela and instead, according to him, represent cases of corruption disguised as charitable efforts.
The Venezuelan foreign minister warned European taxpayers about "cases of corruption taking place under the pretense of the European Union providing aid to Venezuela," suggesting that the funds claimed as assistance are being misused.
Gil emphasized that the €14.5 million allocated by the European Union as "humanitarian aid for Venezuela" will not reach the country, explaining that it will be like the previous €149 million, describing it as "another case of corruption disguised as charitable work."
He further revealed that the European Union’s funds end up in the hands of intermediaries and so-called NGOs, which have turned the international aid into a commercial venture.
In this context, the Venezuelan FM pointed out that "while Brussels imposes cuts, demands reforms, and limits health, housing, and employment budgets in its member states, it proudly announces new millions allocated as humanitarian aid for Venezuela," highlighting what he views as a stark contrast between EU domestic policies and its foreign aid claims.
He continued, stating that "the truth is simple: not a single euro of these funds reaches the Venezuelan people," adding that "the European Union does not develop or register any humanitarian projects in the country." Finally, he declared, "Enough corruption and false excuses from the European Union! Venezuela must be respected."
