Voter turnout in Palestinian local elections nearly 65%
The Executive Director of the Palestinian Central Elections Commission says the voting process went smoothly with no problems.
The Executive Director of the Palestinian Local Elections Commission, Hisham Kahil, announced that the voter turnout in the West Bank reached approximately 65%.
During a press conference, Kahil disclosed that the elections had happened smoothly, with no complications, adding that no serious violations to influence the results occurred.
Kahil detailed how the commission teams began counting votes immediately inside the polling stations to later announce the number of votes each candidate received.
The Commission will hold a press conference on Sunday to announce the results. Moreover, the commission will declare the number of votes and seats obtained by each list, as well as the names of the winners from each local body, in addition to the final voter turnout in the general polls and at the level of each local body.
Hamas had protested against the Palestinian Authority's decision to postpone legislative and presidential elections, which were scheduled for the middle of the year after the Israeli occupation decided to prevent them in al-Quds.
The last Palestinian local elections took place in 2017, in which Fatah Movement won. According to Palestinian law, local elections are to be held every 4 years.
