Walid Daqqa health deteriorating, death looming on horizon: Waed
The Waed Prisoner Affairs Association says cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa has been in constant deterioration.
The health condition of Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa is worsening, and he is no longer recuperating and responding to his treatment, the representative of the Commission of Detainees Affairs, Abdul Qadir Al-Khatib, said Wednesday.
The Israeli occupation "took a clear-cut decision to execute and kill prisoner Walid Daqqa with cold blood without caring for all the calls regarding his freedom nor his reception of treatment to help ease his extreme pain," said the Palestinian Waed Prisoners Association.
"The health condition of cancer patient Walid Daqqa is at its most dangerous, and he is at threat of dying at any given moment," the group said.
It also called for the biggest nationwide campaign in which it urged the people and the Palestinian factions to participate to save Daqqa "from the horrendous crime being carried out against him in the occupation's prisons."
The Commission of Detainees Affairs warned days ago that Daqqa's situation was deteriorating as he resides in the intensive care unit.
The group's lawyer, Karim Ajweh, said Daqqa "woke up from his coma after being on life support over the past period, but he still suffers from difficulty speaking while suffering from extreme weight loss."
Daqqa underwent surgery earlier in April to extract a part of his lung as a result of severe infection.
A few days earlier his wife said after visiting him for only a quarter of an hour that her husband was still in critical condition.
Daqqa's wife pointed out that it was difficult for the Palestinian prisoner to talk because of his respiratory condition, adding that the doctor confirmed to the family the seriousness of Daqqa's respiratory condition in particular.
The Palestinian Commission for Detainee's Affairs warned in late March of the serious health condition of the Palestinian prisoner who has been detained for 38 years, and who was recently transferred to the Israeli Barzlai Hospital due to a relapse in his health.
According to the commission, Ajweh explained after visiting the prisoner that he was in an unstable condition resulting from acute pneumonia and that his transfer to the hospital was due to his suffering from dizziness and low hemoglobin levels.
The prisoner's family appealed to everyone to "take immediate action to save his life and not let him struggle with death inside the occupation cells, as happened with martyr Nasser Abu Hamid."
It is noteworthy that prisoner Daqqa has been detained since 1986 and was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of resisting the occupation. His sentence was later decreased to 37 years.
In 2018, two years were added to his sentence, and a few years ago, his wife, Sanaa Salameh, was able to give birth to their daughter, Milad, after smuggling Daqqa's sperm from prison.
