We approve Egyptian proposal for joint committee to manage Gaza: Hamas
Hamas announced in a statement its approval of the Egyptian proposal regarding the administration of the Gaza Strip.
The Hamas movement has agreed to Egypt's proposal to form a joint committee for governing the Gaza Strip following a series of meetings with representatives from the Fatah movement under Egypt's mediation.
In a statement, Hamas announced that its leadership delegation concluded discussions in Cairo, where they held comprehensive talks with Fatah about establishing a committee to manage the Gaza Strip.
This is a step toward "implementing the comprehensive national agreements aimed at achieving unity and fully resolving the division and its numerous consequences."
According to the statement, the delegation conveyed the movement's approval of the "proposal presented by our Egyptian brothers regarding the formation of a community support committee through inclusive national mechanisms."
The statement also noted that a meeting took place with the leadership of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, during which they discussed the overall political and field developments in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The delegation also met with several Palestinian national figures and dignitaries in Cairo, where they were briefed on the discussions held with the Fatah movement and its stance on the Egyptian proposal within the national framework.
The draft agreement emphasizes the preservation of Palestinian territorial unity based on the 1967 borders. It also stresses the importance of not separating the Gaza Strip from the rest of the Palestinian territories, ensuring continued communication between all parties and the Palestinian Authority.
This comes after a senior Palestinian official told Al Mayadeen on December 2 that recent discussions between Hamas and Fatah regarding governance in the Gaza Strip have seen positive progress.
According to the official, the committee to govern the Gaza Strip after the Israeli war will be composed of experts in government and administrative affairs, with members drawn from within Gaza. The official also confirmed that the Palestinian government in Ramallah will oversee the committee’s operations.
Both Hamas and Fatah have agreed that the committee will remain professional and independent, excluding members from either faction, the senior official maintained, highlighting that several Arab countries have offered support to help establish the governing body for Gaza.
