"Israel" sought to assassinate the leader of Iran, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, during the war on Iran, but failed to reach him, according to the occupation's security minister Israel Katz.
In an interview with Israeli Channel 13, Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israeli government had planned to assassinate the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, during the recent war with Iran, but "no operational opportunity" was available to carry it out.
During the interview, a segment of which was aired during the main news bulletin, the presenter asked Katz why Israel hadn't carried out an operation to assassinate Sayyed Khamenei, to which he replied: "Had he been exposed in a targetable position, we would have killed him."
Katz added: "We searched for him extensively but couldn't reach him," referring to their attempts to track him during the period of the war.
When asked whether the assassination decision had been made at the level of the security cabinet, Katz stated that, "This was the policy of the prime minister and myself," adding, in response to whether the decision required US approval, "We don’t need American approval for such matters."
Katz' announcements follow the ceasefire established between "Israel" and Iran on the 24th of June, hailed by Tehran as a victory that foiled the plans of the Israeli occupation.
Sayyed Khamenei praises historic triumph against 'Israel', US
After "Israel's" sudden announcement of a unilateral ceasefire, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, addressed the Iranian people on Thursday, proclaiming the Islamic Republic’s decisive victory over its aggressors, the Zionist regime and the United States.
"I feel it is necessary to extend several congratulations to the great Iranian nation. First, congratulations on the victory over the artificial Zionist regime. Despite all its noise and claims, the Zionist regime was nearly brought to its knees and crushed under the blows of the Islamic Republic," Sayyed Khamenei declared in his speech.
The leader paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the war, including senior military commanders and scientists, recognizing their steadfast dedication to the Islamic cause.
He went on to highlight Iran's resolute counter to Washington's interference in the conflict, noting how after the Trump administration launched unlawful strikes against Iranian nuclear installations to bolster its Zionist ally's position, Tehran delivered a forceful retaliatory response.
"The US entered the war directly because it feared that if it didn't, the Zionist regime would be completely destroyed," he said. "It intervened to save them but gained nothing from the war."
