West aims to turn Moscow into a 'rogue state': Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasizes the need to eliminate the West's monopoly on establishing international relations frameworks.
During the plenary session of the State Duma, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the West's hybrid war against Moscow aims to turn Russia into a rogue state.
"The United States and its satellites are carrying out a full-out hybrid war against us today, which has been in preparation for many years, using Ukrainian national radicals as a battering ram. The purpose of this war is not hidden — not only to defeat our country on the battlefield, destroying the Russian economy but also to surround us with a cordon sanitaire, turn us into a kind of rogue state," Lavrov said.
Moscow's new foreign policy concept will emphasize the need to eliminate the West's monopoly on establishing international relations frameworks, Lavrov added.
"In our updated foreign policy concept, we will talk about the need to end the West's monopoly on the formation of the framework of international life, the framework should henceforth be determined not in its selfish interests, but on a fairly universal basis of a balance of interests, as required by the UN Charter, which enshrined the principle of the sovereign equality of all states," he said.
Regarding the Nord Stream blast, Lavorv stressed that Moscow appealed to the UN and raised the issue.
"We are preparing a special meeting of the Security Council. We will demand to determine some kind of investigation," he added.
The top Russian official went on to clarify that Russia disagrees with the UN's position that it has no jurisdiction to probe the explosions at the Nord Stream pipelines.
"However, the UN Secretary-General has already said through his official representative that the UN has no authority and mandate to carry out such investigations. With all due respect, we disagree with this position," Lavrov added.
Responding to Moldovan President's accusations, Lavorv accused Chisinau of wanting to divert attention from the failed social and economic policy, which causes outrage among the citizens of the country, with growing rhetoric that Russia is planning a coup in Moldova.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he affirmed that all the West's attempts to isolate Russia have failed, adding, "Our enemies have to admit it."
Russia has been actively working on developing strategic economic relations with countries it considers "friendly" following the West's attempts to isolate Moscow and slash the nation's income.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the US and the EU have multiplied punitive measures to isolate Russia by targeting its banking system and freezing the assets of its leaders and its industries.
Many of the consequences, such as higher gas, electricity, and food prices, have already occurred or will occur. Meanwhile, western citizens are bearing the brunt of the sanctions on Russia, as gas prices are rising in a suffocating manner.
