WHO confirms aid delivered to al-Shifa hospital in Gaza after 1 month
Over 240 patients in the hospital are being aided by volunteer health workers, WHO's director said, adding that the amount of destruction around the hospital is “beyond words”.
The World Health Organization's (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced on Saturday that the organization, in collaboration with its partners, was able to deliver fuel and medical supplies to al-Shifa hospital in Gaza.
Tedros took to X to post the news, “After more than a month, WHO and partners managed to access Al-Shifa hospital in northern Gaza to deliver 19,000 litres of fuel; lifesaving medical supplies for 150 patients; and treatments for 50 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition”.

'Israel' delaying assistance missions to Gaza
Last month, WHO delayed another scheduled medical assistance mission to Gaza because of security concerns, making it the sixth such postponement in two weeks at that time.
Ghebreyesus announced at the time that the cancelation was because mission requests had not been granted or security guarantees had not been provided since its previous visit on December 26.
Addressing a virtual press conference, the director-general expressed that "Intense bombardment, restrictions on movement, fuel shortage and interrupted communications make it impossible for WHO and our partners to reach those in need."
We received greater detail on Saturday’s high-risk @WHO-led mission in #Gaza to Al-Ahli Hospital. We are deeply concerned about prolonged checks and detention of health workers that put lives of already fragile patients at risk.

As Gaza remains deprived of aid and with the constant brutal bombardment that destroys hospitals and aid coming into the Strip, those who have fallen ill find themselves unable to receive treatment as doctors scurry the limited resources they still have to Palestinians whom Israeli strikes have injured.
