Work in BRICS format brings new global opportunities: Cuban FM
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla highlights the manifold global opportunities that arise from engaging with BRICS.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla stated on Wednesday that collaboration within the BRICS framework generates fresh global opportunities for countries.
During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Parrilla said, "I must say that we work very carefully within this group and we always try to use all the opportunities we have to cooperate with the BRICS group. During our time there, we have also done our work, and we believe that working in the group opens up new opportunities on a global scale."
For his part, Lavrov thanked the Cuban foreign minister for his participation in the BRICS foreign ministers' meetings in Russia, adding, "We see great benefit from this kind of events involving countries of the world majority - Africa, Latin America, Asia… Our presidents define tasks regularly, and today our duty is to see how we will improve and concretize activities in all areas of our cooperation."
Earlier this week, Lavrov opened the two-day BRICS foreign ministers' meeting as its chair in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod from June 10 to 11.
Among those who attended were: China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Dr. Naledi Pandor, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, and Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira, while Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is attending in the extended format of the meeting.
This marks the first meeting after the bloc was joined by new members – Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, as its original members are Russia, China, India, Brazil, and South Africa.
