As the Israeli occupation continues its genocidal campaign against Gaza, Yemen’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, has issued a forceful call to the scholars of the Muslim world, urging them to fulfill their moral and religious duty by actively supporting the Palestinian people.
In remarks delivered Sunday from the capital Sanaa, the Mufti declared, "It is the responsibility of the scholars of the Ummah to call for jihad and to aid the distressed and the starving in the Gaza Strip," making clear that silence in the face of mass suffering is no longer tolerable.
"Those among the scholars of the Ummah who remain silent in the face of what is happening in Gaza are among those who have betrayed God and His Messenger," he added.

Sharaf al-Din criticized those who fear Western pressure more than divine accountability, stating that neither Zionist aggression nor American hegemony would be confronted without scholars breaking the barrier of fear and rising to their responsibilities.
"The despair of the Jews and America is not enough unless scholars fulfill their duties, break the barrier of fear, and rise to meet their responsibilities," he said.
Yemeni resolve
He emphasized that Yemen's stance is rooted in principled resistance. "Our Yemeni people, under wise leadership, today confront the nations of the godless West," he declared.
Yemen’s support for the Palestinian struggle, he affirmed, is an extension of its ethical and religious obligations. "They support the Palestinians in the 'Al-Aqsa Flood’ out of their duty toward their brothers in Gaza."
The Mufti praised the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza, calling them "the beacon of the Ummah’s victory," and reaffirmed Yemen’s continued role in the resistance. He called on the Yemeni nation to escalate both public mobilization and military support.
"Our people must continue to rise, support Gaza, and intensify production for the war effort… It is our duty to escalate military operations in response to the suffering of the people of Gaza," he concluded.

Yemen has maintained an unwavering position in defense of Gaza. Every Friday, millions across the country rally in mass demonstrations, while the Yemeni Armed Forces continue operations targeting Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, underscoring a commitment to real action, not symbolic solidarity.
