The Yemeni House of Representatives issued a strong condemnation of the UN Security Council on Sunday, rejecting its recent resolution to extend sanctions on Yemen for another year. The Parliament described the sanctions as “unjust” and accused the UNSC of operating as a tool of Western and Israeli hegemony, driven by US interests.
In an official statement, the Yemeni Parliament framed the renewed UNSC sanctions as part of a broader campaign targeting Yemen’s sovereignty, accusing the council of pursuing an agenda that aligns with foreign powers.
The Parliament criticized what it called UN double standards toward Yemen, arguing that the Council’s policies stand in direct contradiction to the will of free nations that oppose oppression and foreign domination.
Double standards in Yemen, Palestine, and the region
The statement highlighted the council’s ongoing silence in the face of Israeli aggression in Palestine and across the region. It cited the use of internationally banned American munitions in attacks against Palestinians and condemned the UN’s failure to act on repeated war crimes over the past two years.
It further condemned the council’s inaction regarding the US-British-Saudi-UAE coalition’s crimes and the blockade imposed on Yemen, labeling the body’s response as biased and complicit in perpetuating suffering in the region.
SC accused of aiding Israeli aggression
The Parliament declared that the UN Security Council, through its silence, had become an “active partner” in supporting the “criminal Zionist entity,” by offering political cover for crimes committed against both Yemenis and Palestinians.
It emphasized that the UN body had abandoned its responsibility to uphold international law and was instead enabling the continuation of aggression and blockade, a move the statement said violates humanitarian and legal principles.

Parliament slams US-led coalition, blockade on Yemen
Yemen’s legislative body accused the council of turning a blind eye to acts of genocide in Gaza and across the region, arguing that its alignment with Israeli and American interests has undermined its credibility and mission.
It warned the Security Council not to persist in its “double standards", especially when dealing with injustices in the Arab and Islamic world, with particular reference to the ongoing suffering in Yemen and Palestine.
In its closing remarks, the Parliament stated that the council should be pursuing those responsible for war crimes in Yemen and Palestine, not imposing punitive measures on victims. It reaffirmed Yemen’s unwavering support for regional causes and its determination to resist external conspiracies targeting its unity, security, and sovereignty.
