AIFF suspended for violation of FIFA Statutes
FIFA suspends AIFF following the detection of third-party influences that violate FIFA Statutes.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been suspended, on Monday, by FIFA following third-party influences being detected. FIFA said that third-party influences jeopardized the country’s staging of the U-17 Women’s World Cup in October.
The violation, according to the official FIFA statement, is a "serious violation of the FIFA Statutes" and the AIFF is suspended with "immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties."
The statement added that the suspension will persist until the All India Football Federation regains full control of its daily undertakings.
The AIFF is in disarray and being run by administrators after former chief Praful Patel stayed in office beyond his term without fresh elections, which courts ruled invalid. India is due to host the U-17 Women's World Cup from October 11-30. The 2020 tournament in India was canceled and then postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
