Danish badminton ace Viktor Axelsen beat Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen in straight sets on Sunday by clinching the men's singles title at the Indonesia Masters.
In a 41-minute match held at Jakarta's Istora sporting arena, the world number one beat Chou 21-10, 21-12.
Axelsen told reporters, “I love playing here in Istora and I always dreamt of winning a tournament at Istora. It's a legendary venue, so to have done that is something that is really special to me."
His victory came after he downed home favorite Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the semi-finals.
In the women's singles, Chinese Chen Yufei overcame Thai Ratchanok Intanon and won her very first title since the gold medal she earned in Tokyo at the 2020 Olympics.
Chen defeated Ratchanok by winning the Indonesia Masters women's title in 2020, in a 74-minute three-set match 21-16, 18-21, 21-15.
"I am very pleased to get the gold medal today. I faced some difficulties during the game but I'm very pleased to overcome them and secure the win," Chen said.
She secured a place in the final after defeating compatriot He Bingjiao 21-17, 21-14 in the semis.
The Indonesia Open is scheduled from June 14 till June 19.
Following the coronavirus pandemic and almost three years empty of live audiences in Indonesia, the back-to-back tournaments were highly anticipated by badminton fans.
