British Johanna Konta Retires from Tennis at 30
The former most successful British professional tennis player retires after winning her fourth WTA title earlier this year.
Johanna Konta, the former British Tennis star, has officially retired from competitive playing.
Konta has reached an astounding ranking of No 4 in 2017, three grand slam semi-finals, and won the Miami Open in 2017.
She was awarded her fourth WTA title earlier this year in Nottingham.
In a statement, Konta said:
“Grateful, this is the word that I’ve probably used the most during my career, and is the word that I feel explains it best at the end. My playing career has come to an end, and I am so incredibly grateful for the career that it turned out to be.”
Konta arrived in Britain at 14 after being born in Sydney to Hungarian parents. It was only later in her career at 24 that she ranked within the top 100.
In 2015, she established a training center in Gijon, Spain, alongside Spanish instructors Esteban Carril and Jose Manuel Garcia.
She has attained numerous victories while playing famous players like Simona Halep, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Petra Kvitova.
In recent years, Konta suffered from knee issues that necessitated frequent treatment, limiting her playing time and dropping her rating to 113.
She has expressed a desire to establish a family with her new fiance, Jackson Wade.
“All the evidence pointed towards me not ‘making’ it in this profession,” Konta divulged.
“However my luck materialized in the people that came into my life and impacted my existence in ways that transcended tennis. I am so incredibly grateful for these people you know who you are. Through my resilience and the guidance of others, I got to live my dreams."
