First woman coach appointed for Spanish national football team
Montse Tome has been appointed as the first female head coach of Spain's women's national football team, succeeding Jorge Vilda, amid significant changes in the leadership after the president's unsolicited kiss scandal.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Tuesday the appointment of Montse Tome as the new head coach for the women's national soccer team, succeeding the dismissed Jorge Vilda -- this marks the national team's first woman coach, Reuters reported.
Montse Tome, who had been serving as Jorge Vilda's assistant coach since 2018, emerged as a pivotal figure in the growth and development of the national women's team during her tenure.

The RFEF praised her dedication and contributions in a statement, affirming her as a "key player in the national team's growth."
Vilda's contract was terminated earlier on Tuesday by the federation's new board, which was formed after the suspension of RFEF President Luis Rubiales by FIFA over his non-consensual kiss of a Spanish player after the team won the Women's World Cup two weeks ago.
