Former tennis star Boris Becker sentenced to 2½ years in prison
Becker was one of the most well-known tennis stars of the 1980s and 1990s, winning 49 titles, six Grand Slams, and more than $25 million in prize money during his career.
Boris Becker, a former world number one tennis player, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
The former German champion was found guilty of concealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in assets after declaring bankruptcy.
After being convicted on four charges under the UK's Insolvency Act earlier this month, the six-time Grand Slam winner appeared for sentencing at London's Southwark Crown Court on Friday.
The 54-year-old tennis player was also found guilty of concealing debt, removing property, and two counts of failing to disclose estate. He denies the allegations.
The court heard during the trial that Becker was declared bankrupt in June 2017 in London's High Court, in response to a petition from private bank Arbuthnot Latham & Co.
Becker was required to disclose all of his assets as part of the bankruptcy ruling. He was found guilty of removing nearly $449,000 in property from his bankruptcy estate, failing to disclose the ownership of a property in Leimen, Germany, concealing a loan of $869,000, and owning 75,000 shares in technology company Breaking Data Corp.
He was acquitted on 20 additional counts, including failing to return several awards, including an Olympic gold medal and two Wimbledon trophies.
