Judoka Zurab Zviadauri, Georgia's first Olympic champion, has been charged with the premeditated murder of three people, stated the Georgian Interior Ministry.

According to the security forces statement, "Zviadauri was arrested along with another unidentified person on charges of a shooting that killed 3 people in the town of Tsinandali."

Zviadauri was the first Georgian to win a gold medal in the Athens 2004 Olympics in judo, after which he was elected as a Member of Parliament from 2012 to 2016.

If found guilty, Zviadauri could face up to 15 years in prison, according to the Georgian Penal Code.
