Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood charged with attempted rape
The Crown Prosecution Service's North West Division has authorized the charges against Greenwood.
Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behavior, according to Britain's Crown Prosecution Service.
Greenwood, the 21-year-old forward player, is due to appear at Manchester's Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 17.
Prosecutors say that the three charges all relate to the same complainant, who accused Greenwood of attempted rape on October 22, 2021.
The complainant alleged that Greenwood physically assaulted her last December, in addition to using coercion and control tactics between November 2018 and October 2022.
In January, Greenwood was detained for interrogation. In February, he was suspended by Manchester United after the allegations arose online.
After looking through a file of evidence compiled by Greater Manchester Police, specialist rape prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service's North West Division authorized the charges.
