US President Donald Trump announced that Andrew Giuliani, who is the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, would take on the role of executive director for the presidential task force overseeing the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an event set to be jointly hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.
During his first term, Trump appointed Andrew Giuliani as a special assistant to the president and associate director of the Office of Public Liaison. Trump also highlighted his background as a highly competitive golfer and individual.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump also stated that Carlos Cordeiro, who is a senior advisor at FIFA, would take on the role of senior advisor for the task force.
"Together this group will help plan the biggest, safest, and most extraordinary soccer tournament in history," Trump stated during a task force meeting that included FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US Vice President JD Vance among its attendees.
Trump emphasized his desire for visitors coming to the US to watch the competition to enjoy a smooth and hassle-free experience throughout every stage of their trip. "America will welcome the world," Infantino stated.
JD Vance, who serves as vice chair of the task force, stated that the group would do everything in its power to ensure the success of the events while emphasizing that everybody is welcome to attend and witness this incredible tournament, with visitors expected from nearly 100 countries.
"We want them to come, we want them to celebrate, we want them to watch the game, but when the time is up, they'll have to go home, otherwise, they'll have to talk to (Homeland Security) Secretary (Kristi) Noem," Vance stated.
