Verona, Udinese announced several COVID cases among their players, staff
Despite Verona and Udinese announcing a raft of COVID cases among their players and staff, neither team disclosed which players had tested positive or updated on their current health status.
Two days before the start of the Serie A season, Verona and Udinese announced that they had 19 new COVID-19 cases amongst their playing teams and coaching staff.
Verona announced in a statement that eight players had contracted the illness before their trip to Spezia on Thursday, and they all had been inoculated.
Udinese, who play Fiorentina on the same day, later revealed that they had nine positive tests, seven of which were within the first-team players.
Neither team disclosed which players had tested positive or gave information on their current health status.
Local health authorities can prevent teams from traveling, thus no decision has been made on whether either club will be able to fulfill its initial 2022 fixtures.
This has already happened to Salernitana this season when their match against Udinese was called off late last month after they were unable to travel north.
Salernitana has seen a rash of infections, with nine players testing positive for the virus ahead of their home encounter against Venezia on Thursday.
