World Cup: PRT wins close game against GHA, BRA beats SRB
Portugal scored a close win against Ghana on the two's first game in the 2022 World Cup before Brazil snatched the game from Serbia later on.
Breel Embolo fired Switzerland to a 1-0 win over Cameroon in the opening World Cup Group G fixture on Thursday.
Embolo's close-range finish put Switzerland ahead in the 48th minute, with the Cameroon-born Monaco striker opening not to celebrate the goal at the Al Janoub Stadium in Doha.
This marked Cameroon's eighth successive defeat at the World Cup, leaving them without a win in the event since 2002.
Uruguay Vs. South Korea
Uruguay was held to a goalless draw by South Korea in their World Cup opener in Qatar.
Son Heung-min started for the Koreans despite a recent facial fracture, but it was Uruguay who went closest to finding a winner as Diego Godin and Fede Valverde both struck the post.
Portugal Vs. Ghana
Cristiano Ronaldo became the first man to score in five World Cups as Portugal opened their campaign in Qatar with a 3-2 defeat of Ghana in Group H.
Ronaldo shrugged off a tumultuous week that saw him dramatically leave Manchester United to bury a second-half penalty to set Portugal on their way to victory.
Andre Ayew equalized for Ghana shortly afterward but Portugal took a 3-1 lead with goals from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao. Osman Bukari scored a late consolation for Ghana.
Brazil Vs. Serbia
Richarlison scored twice as Brazil launched their bid for a record sixth World Cup crown with a 2-0 victory over Serbia.
Tottenham forward Richarlison swept in a rebound from a Vinicius Jr. shot on 62 minutes before producing a spectacular volley to double Brazil's lead 11 minutes later.
The victory leaves Brazil on top of Group G, with first round games against Switzerland and Cameroon remaining.
