"Israel" has introduced a sweeping artificial intelligence system, known as Morpheus, aimed at monitoring soldiers’ social media activity and preventing posts that could reveal evidence of war crimes.

According to the Zionism Observer, the program was developed to stop troops from "unintentionally sharing sensitive information that could be exploited by adversaries." Morpheus uses AI to scan videos, photos, and text shared online by Israeli forces and flags any content that violates information-security rules.

The pilot phase has reportedly covered 45,000 personnel in recent months and has already resulted in thousands of cases where soldiers were instructed to remove material from their accounts.

The rollout of Morpheus reflects mounting Israeli concern that digital traces left by soldiers could be used in international legal proceedings.

Legal complaints mount over soldiers’ online evidence

Earlier this month, the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) filed a criminal complaint with the Czech Republic’s Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office over an Israeli soldier’s role in atrocities committed in Gaza.

The HRF said the case, submitted by attorney Jan Taubl in Prague, draws on a detailed report outlining Noam Tsuriely’s involvement in war crimes, crimes against humanity, acts of genocide, and public celebrations of Israeli atrocities through his musical performances.

🚨🚨 The #HindRajabFoundation filed a criminal complaint in #Prague against Israeli rapper-soldier Noam Tsuriely, who destroyed civilian homes in #Gaza and then went on a genocide-rap tour, glorifying war crimes through his music.

Tsuriely’s own posts document repeated entries into Gaza, multiple deployments, and participation in destructive operations.

The Brussels-based NGO specializes in collecting and analyzing videos, photos, and social media content shared by Israeli soldiers on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. This material is being directly incorporated into legal filings around the world.

In October 2024, HRF submitted a sweeping complaint to the International Criminal Court targeting 1,000 Israeli personnel for alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. The submission included more than 8,000 pieces of evidence, from social media recordings to forensic analyses and eyewitness accounts.

Palestinian women targeted over alleged ‘social media incitement’

At the same time, the Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Advocacy reports that Israeli occupation forces have sharply escalated their arrest campaign against Palestinian women and girls on accusations of “social media incitement.” The organization says the arrests appear designed to silence dissent against Israeli actions.

More than 600 women have reportedly been detained since the start of the war on Gaza in October 2023. Over that same period, Israeli forces have killed nearly 70,000 Palestinians and injured at least 171,000 others.

IOF tighten restrictions on officers’ phones over hacking fears: Report

This heightened reliance on digital monitoring is not limited to rank-and-file soldiers; it extends deeper into the military’s command structure.

Israeli occupation forces are reportedly preparing to tighten mobile-phone rules for senior officers amid fears that sensitive information could be leaked or intercepted, particularly following Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

Israeli Army Radio has lately reported that officers at the rank of lieutenant colonel and above will soon be required to use only Apple iPhones for official communication. The directive would forbid the use of any other device for military matters and restrict Android phones to personal use. The rules are expected to be issued within days and will apply up to the general-staff level.

The policy marks another step in "Israel’s" effort to minimize exposure through social media and messaging apps, which can reveal behavioral patterns or operational details.

Broader push for digital security inside the IOF

These measures follow earlier attempts to bolster digital discipline within the Israeli occupation forces, including training programs and internal drills designed to counter social-engineering techniques.

In recent years, the military has run simulations involving “honeypots” to test how easily its personnel could be lured into revealing sensitive information.

Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that "hostile groups" attempt to infiltrate soldiers’ devices through social media platforms and messaging applications.

It is worth noting that warnings about WhatsApp exploitation date back to at least 2019, when the Israeli army accused Palestinian resistance groups of using the app to track troop movements around Gaza.
