Apple, Meta discuss merging AI systems for iPhones
The WSJ states that possible outcomes include AI companies selling their premium subscriptions through Apple Intelligence.
Meta Platforms may integrate its generative AI model into Apple Inc's newly released iPhone AI system, The Wall Street Journal said on Sunday.
The WSJ also reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that California-based AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity also discussed the possibility with Apple of merging their generative AI with Apple Intelligence.
It added that as the discussions are not over yet, merging with Apple would give a push to the AI companies wanting more access to customers and the market.
According to the report, the possible outcomes included AI companies selling their premium subscriptions through Apple Intelligence.
Meanwhile, Apple stated its intention to implement new Apple Intelligence technology throughout its lineup of applications, such as Siri, and to introduce the Microsoft-supported OpenAI's ChatGPT to its devices.

Prior to these updates, Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI executive Elon Musk threatened to ban iPhones two weeks ago from all of his companies in response to Apple's newly announced OpenAI integrations at WWDC 2024.
Musk revealed in posts on X: "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level," Apple devices would be barred from his firms, and guests would have to check their Apple devices at the entrance, where they would be "stored in a Faraday cage."
It’s patently absurd that Apple isn’t smart enough to make their own AI, yet is somehow capable of ensuring that OpenAI will protect your security & privacy!

Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They’re selling you down the river.
