Elon Musk announced that his artificial intelligence company, xAI, is set to unveil Grok 3 on Monday, describing it as the "smartest AI on Earth." The chatbot will be introduced through a live demonstration at 8:00 PM Pacific Time (0400 GMT on Tuesday), as Musk revealed on his social media platform, X, on Saturday.

According to Musk, Grok 3 was trained on synthetic data and is capable of refining its reasoning by identifying and correcting errors to improve logical consistency. In anticipation of the launch, he stated, "Will be honing product with the team all weekend, so offline until then."

xAI is striving to carve out its place in an increasingly competitive AI market, challenging established platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT. The AI industry has seen rapid innovation, with new players shaking up the sector. One such competitor is the Chinese startup DeepSeek, which recently launched a low-cost, high-quality chatbot that quickly overtook ChatGPT in downloads on the Apple App Store—a significant challenge to US ambitions to lead AI development.

Despite his repeated warnings about AI's risks to civilization, Musk remains a major investor in the sector. xAI has raised a total of $12 billion, securing $6 billion in December from high-profile investors such as Nvidia, AMD, and sovereign wealth funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This funding follows an earlier $6 billion round in May, making xAI one of the most valuable AI startups, though it still lags behind OpenAI in market influence.

Musk's Bid to Buy OpenAI Rejected

Musk's relationship with OpenAI has been fraught with tension, culminating in his latest attempt to buy the company for $97.4 billion. OpenAI's board unanimously rejected the offer, reflecting the deep rift between Musk and the company he co-founded.

The rejection follows Musk's long-standing criticism of OpenAI's shift from open-source development to a more closed, profit-driven approach. His latest AI venture, xAI, is seen as a direct competitor, and the upcoming Grok 3 release is part of his push to gain ground in the AI space.

Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reportedly dismissed Musk's bid, humorously suggesting a counteroffer to buy Twitter for $9.74 billion. The exchange reflects the growing rivalry between Musk and the AI powerhouse.
