OpenAI unveils new search browser built around chatGPT

In a direct challenge to the dominance of Google Chrome, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, announced on Tuesday the introduction of its "Atlas" search browser, a new product that leverages the company's significant artificial intelligence capabilities.
"This is an AI-powered web browser built around ChatGPT," Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated in a streamed presentation of the browser.
During a demonstration led by Altman and a team of executives, an "agent" mode was showcased, which enables a chatbot to conduct web searches on a user's behalf autonomously. Altman explained that this mode involves ChatGPT independently operating the web browser to retrieve and return the information it finds.
"It's got all your stuff and is clicking around," the OpenAI CEO stated, adding that "You can watch it or not, you don't have to, but it's using the internet for you."
According to Altman, while the Atlas browser is scheduled to go live on Tuesday for computers powered by Apple's operating system, the agent mode feature will have limited availability, being accessible exclusively to users who subscribe to the Plus or Pro versions of ChatGPT.
During the stream, the features demonstrated for Atlas appeared to share similarities with those already incorporated into the internet search browsers Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
