Russia to launch AngoSat-2 in October 2022
The communications satellite, a joint Russian and Angolan space project, will be meeting its initial deadlines.
The corporate newspaper of satellite manufacturer Russia's ISS-Reshetnev Company revealed that the communications satellite AngoSat-2, a joint Russian and Angolan space project, will be launched this coming October, to meet its initial deadlines.
The satellite was delivered on July 26, 2022, to the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the report said.
Augusto da Silva Cunha, Angolan Ambassador to Moscow, told Sputnik last week that his government hoped to launch the satellite by the end of 2022, adding that the project would contribute to the development of telecommunications, agriculture, industry, and other fields, as well as boost the country's national security.
Russia and Angola agreed in April 2018 to build AngoSat-2 as a replacement for the AngoSat-1 after it failed to function right after its launch in 2017. A new communications satellite was to be produced by Russia’s RSC Energia; however, at the request of Angola, the project was reportedly transferred to the ISS-Reshetnev Company in 2020.
