Sudanese Protesters Push for Government’s Resignation
Hundreds of Sudanese protesters hit the streets across the country, calling for the government’s resignation over the International Monetary Fund-backed economic reforms.
Protests erupted a day after the IMF approved a $2.5 billion loan and debt relief package, which will decrease Sudan's external debt by $50 billion. Hundreds of people gathered in Khartoum to burn tires and wave banners reading "bread for the poor" before being dispersed by police using tear gas.
