How does the US view al-Sharaa's trip to Moscow? Former US foreign policy advisor answers
GOP strategist and former US foreign policy advisor Adolfo Franco says Washington sees West Asia as a region that ought to be guided by American and allied interests, particularly "Israel’s". He explains to Al Mayadeen that the Trump administration’s limited easing of sanctions on Syria was a calculated gamble that ultimately sought to weaken Damascus’ ties with Moscow and reintegrate Syria into what he describes as a more “democratic” order. But with new Syrian Regime President al-Sharaa’s visit to Russia, Franco notes, Israeli and US officials now fear a return to the Assad-era model, a centralized, Russia-backed Syria posing renewed threats to regional stability and "Israel’s" security.
