Uganda suffers due to US freezing foreign aid
Uganda’s fight against HIV/AIDS is now at risk after the US cut funding, leaving a $82 million shortfall for critical programs. According to Uganda’s Parliament, the Uganda AIDS Commission and AHF Uganda Cares urgently need this money to keep treatment, lab monitoring, and essential services running. But on January 24, the US State Department froze most foreign assistance, pausing any new aid. They claim to have provided $417 million to Uganda’s health sector last year, helping treat 1.2 million patients.
