Russia will always be open to hearing solutions that would help to defuse the situation, according to Sergey Lavrov.

In an interview for the documentary 'A World on the Verge: Lessons of the Cuban Missile Crisis,' which was broadcast on Sunday on Channel One, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Russian leadership, including President Vladimir Putin, is still prepared for discussions on Ukraine.

"The readiness of Russia, including its president, to negotiate [on Ukraine], it remains unchanged. We will always be ready to listen to what proposals our Western partners have to de-escalate tensions, so if we are approached with some realistic proposals based on the principles of equality and respect for each other's interests, aimed at finding compromises and balancing the interests of all countries, of course, we will react, as we've always had in the past," Lavrov said.

A new generation of Western politicians is trying to irresponsibly ‘toy’ with the topic of nuclear weapons, the Russian Foreign Minister said.

"Poland is asking to be a 'candidate' for the Americans to place their nuclear bombs there as well. This situation is very disturbing," the Russian top diplomat pointed out.

"Figures have appeared in Europe who are trying to ‘toy’ with the topic of nuclear weapons in a rather irresponsible manner," Lavrov said.

He specifically thought back to a few months ago when former French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian had warned Russia to keep in mind that NATO too possessed nuclear weapons.

"The commander of the German Air Force [Ingo Gerhartz] suddenly said that NATO should prepare for nuclear war, for the use of nuclear weapons, and what's more, addressing our president, said: ‘Putin, don't you dare compete with us," the Russian top diplomat added.
