In November 2024, almost 80 million Americans cast their ballots for Donald J. Trump. Most of these men and women saw in Trump the potential to end America’s “forever wars,” smash the deep state, and reindustrialize the country. Trump positioned himself as the “peace-candidate,” the only one committed to stopping the endless bloodshed and waste of public resources on unjust, unprovoked, and imperialist foreign wars.

In the middle of June, those men and women encountered a Trump that has seemingly turned into the opposite of what he campaigned on. He dishonored the promises he made while negotiating with Iran (as all American presidents always do), plotted with “Israel” to carry out the criminal, unprovoked, and unjust attacks on Iran, and now is threatening to destroy the capital city of Iran, Tehran, all the while using the tired justification of Iran manufacturing nuclear weapons to fearmonger and manufacture consent.

Trump, the man who won the hearts of millions of Americans in 2015 when he went on stage and attacked George W. Bush’s invasion of Iraq and the war hawks in both parties, is now parroting the same talking points as those he once condemned.

Imperial Hypocrisy

There is no evidence to support the Zionist fearmongering about Iran and nuclear weapons. It was Iran who signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and accepted regular inspections of its facilities before the US (under the first Trump administration) brutally murdered the heroic anti-terrorist fighter, General Qassem Soleimani.

There is, however, a plethora of evidence which shows that it is “Israel” who has a stockpile of hundreds of nuclear weapons, and which has a Samson Option that threatens nuclear Armageddon if the Zionist entity is ever faced with the prospects of being destroyed. “Israel,” of course, has never signed the NPT, nor has it had any inspection done of its facilities. The imperial hypocrisy could not be any clearer.

If “Israel” can have nuclear weapons, a settler state occupying the Palestinian people and carrying out a genocide against the native population, why can Iran not develop such weapons?

Hasn’t history shown that the best deterrence for the sort of attacks Iran faced some days ago from the Zionist entity is precisely having these weapons? Have we forgotten the lesson of Libya, where Muammar Gaddafi, just eight years after he suspended his nuclear program in 2003, would get brutally overthrown by the US empire and NATO, destroying the most prosperous country in Africa, leaving just misery and open slave markets behind?

How different is the experience of Libya from that of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which has been able to develop nukes?

Notwithstanding, therefore, the baselessness of the Zionist claims to manufacture consent for war, it is nonetheless true that Iran is within all its rights to develop, for strategic deterrence, those weapons “Israel” already has hundreds of.

Trump Loses the MAGA Base

It has not been lost on the MAGA base what they are labeling as Trump’s betrayal. As many analysts have noticed, Trump is being attacked by his own base on Truth Social, the app he made after getting banned from Twitter (now X). Many individuals are noticing the unbridgeable gap between the Trump they voted for and the Trump they got. The Trump they got, as many are suggesting, is just another warmonger. One more monster in the swamp he long ago promised to drain.

Prominent MAGA spokespeople have also come out to criticize Trump’s escalations with Iran. Tucker Carlson, perhaps the most influential U.S. media personality, has not only condemned Trump’s escalation, but also seriously thrown wrenches into the baseless justifications being used to manufacture consent for this war.  Tucker also just went viral making a fool out of the Zionist Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz, who saber-rattles for war against Iran but doesn’t know even basic things about the country.

Tuckers unmasking of Cruz simply displayed to millions of Americans what most of us have always known: the American politician is simply the puppet of his donors, of those who enrich themselves from these wars, of those who sustain their global dominance of finance capital and resources through these wars.

The job of the American politician is not to know about the country he is asking the American worker to go fight and die in a war with. Their job is to convince the public – by any means necessary – that this war is good, that while you might know we lied about all the previous ones, that now we are telling the truth and war is necessary!

Superpatriotism versus Real Patriotism

Talk show host Mark Levin, someone whose intelligence shows that American media would put a monkey with a suit in front of a camera if it knew how to read a script, has recently said that all those Americans who are condemning Trump are “Marxist-Islamists, they don’t sound like patriotic Americans… you are either a patriotic American who is going to get behind the president of the United States, the Commander in Chief, or you’re not.” 

For this great intellect, patriotism means following your government when it wants to send your kids off to die in foreign wars to benefit the rich elite who occupy America, and who use the Zionist entity as their colonial outpost in West Asia. Patriotism is blind loyalty to those who wrap themselves in the flag while keeping their countrymen poor, indebted, and desperate.

This is, however, not patriotism. This is what the political theorist Michael Parenti called superpatriotism, the militaristic attitude of supporting your “country” – by which is meant, your government – even when it is wrong.

The superpatriots like Mark Levin do not actually serve their country – that is, their people – they serve the impersonal, anti-patriotic, and global system of imperialism.

As Paul Robeson said when he testified at the House of Un-American Activities, it is those who attack critics of the state for being “un-patriotic” who are the real anti-patriots. What else can we call, besides traitor – or, in Cuban, gusanos – the individuals who cheerlead for wars where their countrymen will die just so that their masters can get richer and their own pockets fatter?

Real American patriots stand against the US war on Iran. We stand against the US’s support of the Zionist entity, and against the hundreds of billions of dollars we have given them to wage a genocide on the heroic Palestinian people, and war on the region as a whole.

Real American patriots stand – like the founders once did – against imperialism, against colonialism, against the impersonal systems of conquest, domination, and wealth-extraction which oppress, exploit, and indebt human beings.

Today, the real American patriot is the one who understands that the Palestinian, Iranian, Lebanese, Yemeni, in short, the axis of resistance, has a right to defend itself. These countries are fighting to protect their historic homelands against the scourge of Zionist fascism and its U.S. backers.

No real patriots can deny the right of another man to defend their country. No real patriot can stand in favor of those seeking to kick people from their homelands.

A Split in MAGA

Donald J. Trump Jr. recently replied to Jack Poso, saying that both neocons and democrats benefit from the split in MAGA emerging from his positions on Iran.

The split in MAGA that I and others have been writing about for months is now so profound that even Trump Jr. must address it. This has been the basic contradiction of Trump’s political career since the beginning.

On the one hand, he was able to activate a sense of dissident partisanship in millions of discontented working-class Americans who came to support him because he presented himself as a political outsider who would end the wars, reindustrialize the country, and dismantle the deep state. On the other hand, Trump has, de facto, never represented anything other than the interests of US empire, however erratic and inconsistent it has been.

Now, millions of MAGA working-class Americans are waking up to see what Trump really is – another deep state monster instrumentalizing superpatriotism to manufacture consent for war. The MAGA working-class base, therefore, is getting to the final moments of its long-brewing break from Trump.

This discontented base, God willing, will find a new home in the American Communist Party, the only consistently anti-Zionist, anti-imperialist, and truly patriotic political organization in the United States.
