'Beetle' surpasses 'Barbie' with $25.4M debut: Box office
Analysts say that prospects for screening the movie overseas are positive.
Data from the Box Office showed on Sunday that the "Blue Beetle" movie surpassed "Barbie" by scoring $24.5 million in ticket sales compared to its competitor's $21.5 million ticket sales.
The DC Studios/Warner Bros. production may have topped the charts this week, but it is estimated that the $25.4 million take was "the lowest DC superhero debut of this era" after "Wonder Woman 1984" released in 2021.
The "Beetle" movie stars 22-year-old American actor Xolo Mariduena of Latin origins as a college graduate who acquires superpowers as his body is taken over by a mysterious Scarab.

Paramount's animated "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" earned fourth place with $8.4 million in ticket sales.
Fifth place went to Universal's comedy "Strays" at $8.3 million, a movie that cost $46 million to make.
