Ye returns to X after Elon Musk removes ban
Kayne West's account, on Twitter, now called X, had been removed, but now the singer, producer, and designer's account has been reinstated.
Twitter, formerly known as X, has reinstated Kanye West’s account on the social media platform after an 8-month ban.
West, legally known as Ye, assured X's CEO, Elon Musk, that he would not take advantage of the platform to propagate antisemitic or harmful content, as he had previously tweeted an image featuring a swastika and claiming in an interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, in December 2022, on his platform Infowars: "I like Hitler," Ye told Jones. "I love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis."
Later, in March 2023, Ye claimed he had changed his attitude about followers of Judaism after a turbulent year that saw the rapper and businessman alienated from a large portion of the American elite due to his bigoted remarks regarding Jewish people.
According to the artist, producer, and designer, watching the Hollywood movie 21 Jump Street has caused him to reconsider his position regarding Jews and Judaism. "Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again," West said on Saturday as he referenced the movie's co-star.
Ye's account was suspended in December of last year. Even directly before the suspension, Ye refused to tweet. However, his last tweet, which was not directly prior to suspension, read: “Cancel cancel culture.”
As of Sunday morning, when his account was reinstated, Ye has not tweeted yet.
In one of his last posts, on December 1, the day before losing access to his account, he said: “Cancel cancel culture.”
