The Central Bank of Yemen revealed plans to introduce a newly minted 50-rial coin, set to begin circulating on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
According to a statement obtained by the Yemeni News Agency SABA, the Central Bank of Yemen explained that the new coin was produced to tackle the problem of deteriorated banknotes and enhance the overall quality of money in circulation.
The Central Bank emphasized that this decision underscores its dedication to reinforcing trust in the national currency, building on previous efforts such as the introduction of the 100-rial coin, to exchange damaged banknotes while maintaining stability in the money supply and avoiding any impact on exchange rates.
The Central Bank stated that the new coin was developed and produced using advanced technical and security specifications to guarantee longevity and smooth functionality in daily transactions.
It specified that citizens and relevant parties can exchange their damaged paper currency for the new coins at authorized exchange centers located in the bank’s main headquarters and its branches across the Yemeni provinces, with the service being available during regular business hours.
The Central Bank extended its gratitude to the Yemeni people for their continued trust while emphasizing its unwavering dedication to implementing all required actions aimed at enhancing the national currency's stability, maintaining a robust monetary framework, protecting the financial assets of citizens, and bolstering overall confidence in the domestic economic system despite existing difficulties.
