Indiana Jones 5 to premiere at Cannes with tribute to Ford
Cannes Film Festival announces that "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," the 5th film in the Harrison Ford adventure series, will make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18.
The Cannes Film Festival will host on May 18 the global premiere of the new Indiana Jones film, Harrison Ford's final outing in the legendary series as the adventurous archaeologist, organisers confirmed on Monday
"Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", which also stars Antonio Banderas and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, is the fifth film in the legendary adventure series and will make its global premiere at the Cannes festival, where a tribute will be paid to Ford for his career.
Ford announced that this would be his last outing as the whip-cracking, fedora-wearing archaeologist.
The first chapter of the film series, "Raiders of the Lost Ark," was released in 1981, and the previous film in the series, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", was also premiered at French festival in 2008.
The "Dial of Destiny" is set during the 1960s space race and features a flashback scene in which Ford has been digitally de-aged. It is the first in the series not to have been directed by Steven Spielberg, who still is the executive producer but hands over the reins to James Mangold.
"In 1995, I was honoured to come to Cannes with my first film 'Heavy' as part of the Director's Fortnight. Twenty-eight years later, I am proud to return with a slightly larger spectacle," Mangold said in a statement.
This year's festival runs from May 16 to 27, and the full line-up will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's most recent movie, "Killers of the Flower Moon", has officially been confirmed to get its global premiere at the festival on May 20.
