Russia expresses "serious concern" to India over US activity
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expresses to India his country's serious concerns over US activity in Asia and the Pacific and discusses a vision on the necessity of including the new government and Afghanistan.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today, Monday, during the "2 + 2" consultations, that Russia expressed India's deep concern over US activities in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Indian and Russian leaderships have a relationship of great trust and confidence, and a package of significant documents will be signed at the annual bilateral summit, external affairs minister Jaishankar and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov said.
Lavrov: the deal is of great practical importance
Lavrov added, after talks with his Indian counterpart Subramaniam Jaishankar, and the Russian-Indian consultations between the defense and foreign ministers of the two countries, "both Russia and India have a similar worldview of a more polycentric, more multipolar, more equitable world order. We advocate similar or identical positions on the most important political and military issues."
He considered he is "confident that the new mechanism is going to turn into an efficient dialogue platform to talk about a wide range of regional and international topics a little further deepening our traditional, mutual understanding," adding that it'll help reinforce their "privileged strategic partnership."
Lavrov added that Russia is seeing American attempts to undermine cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi on the S-400 systems. He said it is a deal that is not only symbolic but also of very great practical importance for maintaining "India's defense capabilities."
In the same context, he mentioned that they witnessed attempts by the United States to undermine this cooperation and compel India to purchase American weapons, as well as making India accept American perceptions of how this region will develop.
Lavrov pointed out that there is a common vision for Russia and India on the necessity of the inclusiveness of the new government in Afghanistan.
